The highest stronghold in your life

August 1, 2019

In the ancient city of Corinth, there was a 1883 foot tall hill with a tower on top. No matter who controlled Corinth, they always had the tower on top of the hill.

Because if you could control the high ground, you could control the city.

If you had a citadel at the highest area, you could shoot down enemies. Anyone who wanted to take it would have to look up at the sun and work against gravity; and arrows and hot oil could be poured down from above.

So what is the highest ground of your life?

The highest ground is literally your head.

What I’m trying to say is that you can’t live right if you can’t think right.

Before the battle of the fist, comes the battle of the mind. Kung Fu Panda taught me that. But it’s true and that’s why the Bible places such a strong emphasis on guarding our thoughts.

“Take the thought captive”, the Bible says.

Is the thought good? Is it noble? Is it pure? Is it praiseworthy? Is it of good report? Think on these things.

Is it going to take you to narcissism-nation? Is it going to take you to lonely-ville? Is it going to take you to FOMO-Farm? Don’t get on that train.

So many of our thoughts are born out of insecurities that we feel.

“Why wasn’t I invited?”

“Why wasn’t I in that photo you posted?”

“Why are you having fun without me?

Those kind of thoughts are going to lead you into a miserable kind of life.

So we’re going to take those thoughts captive. How?

I’m not advocating positivity as a replacement for God.

I’m saying that positivity should be your response to God.

Because He’s a God who is so good, He goes before you and sets things up. He’s a God who is madly in love with you and has plans for you, and is constantly thinking about you.

And He is able to work all things for your good and for His glory.

That sounds like a positive way to live.

And this isn’t a ‘your glass is half full’ view. Because I’m telling you – your cup is overflowing.

God is in control, and that gives you control of the high ground.

-Levi Lusko

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ - 2 Corinthians 10:5
