Do you believe in God?

September 20, 2016

Does God exist? Is He real? Was the universe created by Him or is this all by mere chance?

At one point or another, you’ve thought at least one or more of these questions.
You’ve pondered about this life, this existence.

Your answer here, no matter what you believe, is not going to change the absolute truth.

No, I’m not going to tell you what I believe the truth is, at least not yet.

My question today is far simpler, yet it still confuses me. My question is about YOU, yet you may not be able to answer it completely, even to yourself at this moment.

My question to you is;

“Do you believe in God?”

Now if your answer is simply NO, I want to encourage and invite you to read further. No, I’m not going to push religion down your throat so don’t get wary.

And If your answer is “Yes”, I want you to ask yourself again – do you REALLY believe in God?

What do you believe about Him?

That He is omnipotent?

Omnipresent?

That He created everything?

He created you and I?

If you believe in God, you’ve probably heard and believe in all these traits about Him (or at least that He created everything), right?

If your answer is still “yes”, I want you to dig a little deeper on those questions.

Quickly look at yourself and think about how you’ve spent your time, effort, and resources in the last week.

Done? Okay…

Here are some facts (from this comic by Adam Ford), about that creation you believe He created…There are roughly a septillion stars in the known universe.

(that’s 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 by the way)

In 2003, the Hubble Space Telescope trained its gaze on a tiny, dark area of the sky for almost four months, and this is the image it gave us:

Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have captured the most comprehensive picture ever assembled of the evolving Universe — and one of the most colourful. The study is called the Ultraviolet Coverage of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (UVUDF) project.

That is roughly one-thirteenth millionth of the sky. And those are not stars. Those are galaxies.

In our little galaxy is our little tiny rock called Earth, a small percentage of which is covered in sand.

Recently a group of researchers at the University of Hawaii set out to calculate the total number of grains of sand in all the world’s deserts and beaches, and the number they came up with was SEVEN QUINTILLION, FIVE HUNDRED QUADRILLION.

That’s 7500,000,000,000,000,000

Do you want to know what’s larger than the number of grains of sand on planet Earth?

The number of atoms in one single grain of sand.

Join me in trying, and failing, to comprehend the magnitude and complexity of this massive and immense creation that God spoke into existence.

And now, take a hard look at yourself.

Truly examine yourself.

Look at how you’ve lived this last week and ask yourself again – do you REALLY believe in God?

Or do you believe in a tiny, puny person in your mind that isn’t all that powerful, that doesn’t really care about you? That you limit  in what he can and cannot do?

Because there is a MASSIVE difference in what we say we believe and what we really believe.

What we really believe is the tiny space where what we say we believe and how we spend our time living out that belief, completely collide.

Those massive numbers I mentioned above? That’s just a part of creation, it’s not even all of it! Imagine that!

Let your head sink in all you’ve read and seen right now.
It’s just a mere speck, a super tiny glimpse of what’s in store.

“Join me in basking in, and being astonished by, the fact that the Controller of all of this invites us to be His, and to enjoy Him, forever.

And join me in pondering, and repenting of, the foolishness of any half-hearted commitment to the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of every atom, in every star, in every galaxy in the universe” – Adam Ford

Do you really believe in God? Or are you just making a god of yourself…

God holds the universe in His hands
“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand or marked off the heavens with the span of his hand? Who has gathered the dust of the earth in a measure or weighed the mountains in a balance and the hills in the scales?” – Isaiah 40:12
