Rise up

February 14, 2017

I love how often God commands us to rise up.

There’s this sense we are called to something greater and God wants to see us get there. It’s just that He is very clear about how we get there – we rise in humility.  And while we consider humility to be thinking less of ourselves or thinking of ourselves less; humility is a fruit we reap.

“Humble yourselves and pray”

“Humble yourselves and serve”

“Humbles yourselves and pick up your cross”

Humility is a choice we make every day and it cultivates the fruit of the spirit.

One thing you learn, especially when you are knocked down or set aside, which truly humbles you, is you suddenly recognize every decision that is fueled by pride.

One of the things we learn daily about humility is that we need to have a coachable spirit.

You see, humility listens, ask questions, learns and doesn’t blame. Being humbled feels a lot like putting on a new skin. So if you’re in a strange season of being forgotten and stuck in a place you feel like you’re going backward, there’s this hope I’ve found – there’s a difference between humility and timidity. You can be powerful, not prideful.

If you’re being humbled today, even forcefully, remember this – God is filling you up with what you need, to be able to rise up and pour into others.

Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up - James 4:10
