“According to Ephesians 4, the first thing that we are called on to walk is humility. And when you realise what God knows about you, boy, you walk in humility.
I got upset at one stage because lies were being told about me. And they were closing doors for ministry around seven or eight years ago. I was upset because doors of ministry were closing; and I went to God and I had a good old bind about it.
Do you know what He said to me? He said, “David, the worst they can say about you is not as bad as the truth.”
I burst out laughing. I told my wife, she burst out laughing too. It relieved me.
And He said, “I still love you, and I still use you.”
You see? So whenever I hear a lie about me now, I say “well, thank God they don’t know the truth.”
Jesus does know the truth.
He knows everything about you, and that keeps you humble. Because He knows. Walk in humility.
Let me quote a little poem –
Once in a saintly passion
I cried with desperate grief
Oh Lord, my heart is black with guile,
Of sinners, I am chief.
Then stopped my guardian angel
And whispered from behind,
“Vanity, my little man,
You’re nothing of the kind.”
There’s even a false modesty. And false modesty is not humility.
“Oh no, I couldn’t do that. Oh, I can’t do it.”
That’s a false modesty. Real humility says, “what I am, I am, by the grace of God. If it wasn’t for His grace, where on earth would I be today?”
Walk in humility.”
