I think one of the biggest and saddest lies that we believe is that God is a killjoy and that life as a believer is boring.
And I think this comes because we focus a lot on things that He has commanded His people to stay away from that the world sees as pleasurable.
But if you think about it, this is God we are talking about.
He is infinite. He is creative. He created the whole universe. Stars that emit not just light, but even sound. Polar bears with black skin and white fur. Butterflies that can taste with their feet. Reptiles that can change colors.
This is a highly creative, adventurous, marvelous, WONDER-ful God.
He calls us into a life of joy – and that is a much more powerful word than happiness.
We’ve got to destroy that lie that God is boring.
Because if you’re bored in your relationship with the infinite perfect Creator of the wonder-filled universe, guess who the boring one is?
As CS Lewis puts it –
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
Step it up. He is calling you into His beautiful adventure. Take His hand. And strap yourself in for a crazy ride.
