You will do greater things than these

March 9, 2020

Imagine being one of the people who followed Jesus when He walked on earth.

Imagine being able to witness all the awesome things He did – the miraculous healings, the forgiveness He offered to the outcasts, the feeding of the 5000 men.

Imagine being able to listen to His teachings and being filled with awe, and then watching Him perform wonders, causing the storm to be still, or walking on the water, or casting out violent demons.

Imagine being a witness to all of this and marvelling at His power, and His love, and being floored by everything that was happening because of how impossible it all should’ve been.

And then imagine being able to hear these powerful words from His lips –

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

John 14:12

You will do greater things than these.

Can you imagine Him saying that to His frightened little disciples after all that He did? The miracles? The signs and wonders? The mighty displays of His power?

And can you imagine Him saying that to us today? Because He is. The promise is for all who believe in Him, isn’t it?

He paved the way for us. He created a path for us to walk on, so that we wouldn’t have to (because we couldn’t).

He went through the worst obstacles, and the horrors of the Cross, set an example and then said, “Here’s the way. Walk in it. You will do the great things I have done and even greater things too.”

We all have a calling on our lives. And I don’t know what that is for you, but you’ve probably felt inadequate or incapable while thinking of the weight of the responsibility that you have to carry.

We just want to tell you that all that matters is that Jesus is with You, and with Him, nothing is impossible.

A wise man once gave me the example of an arrowhead. When an arrow strikes its target, its the arrowhead that has to drive through whatever it hits. It’s the arrowhead that has the maximum resistance, and that has to go through the difficulty of pushing through it’s target. The part of the arrow that follows it just has to pass through the hole that’s already been made by the arrowhead.

If you’re being called into something today, we implore you to take the risk and go for it. Because it’s not just about you, it’s about those who come after you as well.

Jesus was the arrowhead. And He’s calling us to be one too. Because those who come after us may need it more than we think.

It may seem lonely, and it may seem hard; but know, that the Father has already gone before you.

And who knows who you might inspire on your journey. Who knows how many lives you may touch and bless through this.

Who knows – maybe one day you’ll be looking at someone who’s looking up to you, and you might end up saying, “you can do this too. In fact, you can do greater things than this.”

Here’s a cover of Rick Pino’s song PIONEER, sung by Royston Pais. We pray it blesses you

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.- John 14:12-14
